Six months ago, I was lying in bed, scrolling through my phone. A thought came to me: I spend most of my time scrolling social media, consuming endless video content, and watching shorts.
I’m not controlling/ managing my time effectively even myself, rather these habits are controlling me.
And I do the same thing every day.
I do the same thing every week… and so on.
I was eager to change my lifestyle and improve my personal development.
I wanted to be productive, build better habits, and take control of myself.
I tried many fancy productivity techniques and time management strategies to bring change into my life. I tried one technique after another…
Maybe those techniques were good, but they didn’t fit me.
I became disappointed, tired, heartbroken, and overwhelmed.
I felt like self-improvement was out of reach and I couldn’t control myself.
I just couldn’t.
Suddenly, I realized that I had intended to go to bed to sleep, but what am I doing? I am wasting my precious time.
So, I took a simple step.
I cut off my internet connection, locked my phone, and put it aside.
Then I closed my eyes and waited for sleep.
It worked. I had a sound sleep and even woke up early in the morning.
This small change in my sleep routine had a significant impact.
I decided not to use my phone when I went to bed to sleep. I strictly followed this routine and started getting a sound sleep every night.
It was a blessing.
No fancy techniques - no productivity secrets - no hacks. Just one single step, one concrete decision, strictly maintained.
I wanted to make it a habit. I decided I would sleep every night before 11 pm. I would do it intentionally every day to make it a subconscious routine, my second nature.
Now I start my day with positive energy and motivation, having had a good night’s sleep.
Encouraged by this success I wanted to build other more productive daily habits. I want to wake up at 5 am, do 15 minutes of yoga, take a morning shower, and have a balanced breakfast.
These simple habits aimed to enhance my morning routine and overall well-being.
To track my progress and stay accountable, I assigned priority points to each habit: sleep (30), wake up (20), yoga (15), shower (20), and breakfast (15). This system totaled 100 points, providing a clear structure for my daily habit tracking.
To strictly follow these routines, I’ve set some rules to earn and deduct points:
- If I slept by 11 pm, I earned 30 points. For every 30-minute delay, I lost 5 points.
- If I wake up at 5 am, I earn 20 points but lose 5 points for every 30-minute delay.
- If I complete 15 minutes of yoga I’ll earn 15 points. I gain 5 points for every 5 minutes of yoga and receive 0 points if skip.
- If I take a morning shower, I earn 20 points; otherwise, I get 0.
- If I have a balanced breakfast, I earn 15 points; if it’s not balanced, I get 0 points, and if it’s unhealthy, I lose 10 points.

I’ve kept a notebook to track my routines. I use it as a habit tracker journal.
I write all 5 habits and their priority points, and based on my achievements, I assign points for each habit on that day.
This method of habit tracking made my progress visible and motivated me to stay consistent.
I segmented my routine for a week and just beneath each daily log, I included a graph to visualize my weekly progress, which helped me plan and adjust my routines for the following week.

I’ve shared an image of my weekly routine page from my notebook — you can check it out in the image below.
